I am constantly getting asked what I’m watching on Netflix or if I have any good recommendations for shows to watch so I decided to make a list of my faves!
Vampire Diaries
This is the one Shaun and I are currently watching! My bestie told me I had to watch it and she said I would love it since we love all the same shows. I was really hesitant (even though I love Twilight and all things vampire) because it looked cheesy. But Shaun and I started this and we binged like 15 episodes in a weekend. We’re on season 3 now and loving it! I highly recommend.
Pretty Little Liars
Okay, also recommended by my bestie. I used to see the previews for these when I was watching Gossip Girl and One Tree Hill back in high school. I was always intrigued but we didn’t have On Demand back then and I didn’t want to start watching from the middle. Shaun and I flew through this and loved it. I’m actually re-watching this right now in preparation for a spin-off series called The Perfectionists that’s coming out this March. I’m not sure if all of the characters from PLL will return but I know for sure a few of them do. Add this to your list ASAP!
Gossip Girl
This is my favorite show, ever! I’ve watched it from start to finish 6 or 7 times. I know. That’s a lot. When Shaun and I started dating I tried convincing him to watch it with me and he told me it sounded too “girly”. I asked him to just watch one episode with me and if he hated it we could turn it off. Halfway through episode 1 he was hooked. Our wedding location is used in the show but I won’t spoil it and tell you what for. 😉
Shameless
Shaun and I watch this live when it’s airing on TV however I heard from so many people that they don’t watch Shameless and I was honestly shocked. I thought everyone watched it. When I first heard about it years ago I didn’t think it was something I’d be interested in but I’m obsessed with it. If you haven’t ever seen it or you need to catch up on old seasons all the way up to the current one you can do so on Netflix.
Walking Dead
I’ve watched this since the first episode that aired on TV but this was another one that I’ve heard from a lot of people they haven’t seen. I’m not a huge zombie fan but I am a huge Walking Dead fan. I would give this one a shot even if you don’t think you’d like it. You might be surprised.
Friends
This is a classic but again one a lot of people haven’t seen. The acting is a little questionable in the first season and the jokes weren’t as funny but if you push through it and make it past all that I honestly think it’s one of the greatest stories ever told.
Orange Is the New Black
I do bail bonds for a living so this show had me intrigued when it was just being talked about and wasn’t even released yet. I’m a huge fan of all things jail and prison and knowing they took a real story, made into a book, and turned it into a show, intrigued me even more. The last season ever airs this year so now would be a good time to watch if you haven’t yet. This show has made me laugh, frightened me, and made me cry happy and sad tears. The cast really makes this story what it is and it’s brilliant.
13 Reasons Why
I have only seen season 1 of this. I tried watching season 2 but I was struggling internally. I read the book first and I loved the book. However, the book ends when season 1 of the show ended. So for me the story ended there and it’s hard to wrap my head around the fact that it didn’t. I think this is such an important show to watch, though. Although I will say if you’re a reader I would read this instead of watch it any day of the week. You will probably enjoy it more if you don’t read it first.
The Staircase
Shaun and I love all things murder. If there is a murder documentary out there we’ve seen it. Either that or we don’t know it exists 😂. I’ve solved the JonBenét Ramsey case 62 times in my head. So as soon as this came to Netflix we put a pause on watching our show to watch this. We really enjoyed it but wished it wouldn’t have been so biased. I like to do my own research outside of what someone tells me/shows me and it turns out they left out a lot of the facts. So when we watched it I felt one way about the outcome of the case and now I feel the exact opposite. It’s definitely worth watching but do your own research to come to your own conclusion!
Evil Genius
This was like, mind blowing for us. The fact that this actually happened is insane enough but to hear and see this woman was very eerie. I won’t say much more because I don’t like to spoil things but prepare to be creeped out. It’s terrifying that real people like this exist in the world.
Making a Murderer
Shaun and I are fully caught up with this one and really enjoy watching. However, just like I said with The Staircase, this one is very biased. I’ve done my own research and the documentary is geared towards making you feel one way and one way only. Either way you look at it there were very shady things happening during this investigation but I think both parties are guilty of wrongdoing. I would definitely suggest watching if you haven’t but again take it with a grain of salt. Do your own digging and come up with your own opinion!
Ozark
This is an absolute favorite of ours! Jason Bateman is one of our favorites and to see him in a semi-serious/serious role is refreshing and interesting. He’s still Jason Bateman with a lot of dry humor but with a more serious plot. Think drug cartel + Jason Bateman. This show will make you hold your breath with suspense.
American Horror Story
When this show first started I had already missed the first season. I was also too terrified to watch it. Then I was told that every season has different actors, characters, themes, and settings. So basically if you only want to watch one season or two seasons you can totally do that. There is a beginning, middle, and an end to the story of each season. I found season 1 on Netflix and I was hooked. I will say this show is very dark and can be twisted and creepy. If you live alone and frighten easily I would pass on this one. But if you’re like Shaun and I who love to be spooked this is a must watch. I wouldn’t put it in the horror category but it definitely makes your palms sweat at times.
The Haunting of Hill House
I’m just gonna come out and say it. This terrified me. Like, to my core terrified me. I’m not a huge nightmare person but this gave me nightmares the entire time we were watching it and a few weeks beyond. But again, I love horror so I was torturing myself. If you spook easily stay the hell away from this one. To make things even spookier, this is based on true events.
Mindhunter
We love this one! It is a little slower than other shows but we are so glad we stuck it out and watched. It is based off of true events and true serial killers but it’s not a documentary. If you’re a murder mystery kind of person or you’re intrigued by the Ted Bundy’s and Jeffrey Dahmer’s of the world this one’s for you!
Comment with some of your favorites/recommendations. I have a lot of people telling me to watch The Office and Dexter. I have tried watching The Office but the humor seems very strange in the first season. Does it get any better? 😩
